Week or month cycle chemistry reports with tables filled with instrument readings and lab analysis results in a spreadsheet are unfortunately still an often-used format. We have seen this way of reporting in power plants in all regions and continents we visited.
“How was the cycle chemistry the last week-month? What was the impact on the assets?” These are the questions the management teams have. Yet the plethora of numbers not giving direct answers to those questions too often pushes the chemistry reports to the “Let’s look at it later” pile.
The two pillars for minimizing the damaging rate are ensuring stable, correct alkalinity (treatment) while ascertaining a high purity. Reporting, for a given period, the achievement (performance) rate of both pillars with three simple KPI’s (treatment, water purity, steam purity) is so much clearer than a set of spreadsheet tables.
Additionally, using the same scale for treatment and purity, for a combined cycle, fossil plant or CSP, and for power plants A and B, allows for a performance check of an entire fleet.
This KPI reporting is the strength at the root of our chemistry dashboard and chemistry data evaluation tool.
